Whitney Houston - All The Man That I Need
Lyrics & Visuals
When we get into the chorus of the song we hear Whitney sing "He gives me love" when she sings this she holds both hands to her heart, When she then goes on to say "More love than ive ever seen" she holds out her arms wide like she's receiving something large. Houston then goes onto sing "He holds me close, and wont let go" when she sings this she is holding herself tightly.
Music & Visuals
As this song is a slow song this camera is very relaxed and calm whilst filming Miss Houston as she walks around the room singing. In this video Whitney Houston is seen a lot of the time in front of glass letting in light this light illuminates Whitney making her look angelic, also at 35 seconds into the video she has her head tilted back with her hair being illuminated which could suggest her innocence and also could resemble a halo. some time after this there is a close up on her face, you can see a cross on her ear ring which also relates to her being an angel.
Genre Characteristics
The genre of this song is R&B/Soul you can see one characteristic of a R&B video in this video as there is an attractive female singing. In this video there is a live performance at the end Miss Houston is singing with a choir behind her this particular situation can again relate to the angelic Whitney we saw earlier in the video.
Artists Close Up/Label
Whitney Houston is strongly featured throughout the video being the only person you see for the majority of it, only at the end is there other people featured. There are a number of close ups on her face throughout the video also.
Star Image
In this video we see Whitney Houston wearing a turtleneck with her initials WH embroidered on it, Whitney Houston is the only person we see for the majority of the video this ensures the viewer knows who the star is here, also this particular song had been recorded few times before but failed to make a real impact on the billboard charts, Whitney could have stood alone in this particular video to show she is capable of making hits on her own.
Voyeurism/Looking/Gaze.
There is no real Voyeurism in this video Whitney is dressed in a tutleneck which covers her whole upper body body but her head and hands, the only hint of voyuerism in this video is the fact that Whitney was an attractive female but other than that there is not much to comment on.
